Ravi Teja's Veera Telugu Movie Review!

It is

A film that takes us, US, one of the most compromising, undemanding and leisurely audience of the world for granted. I agree that we have been in this state for a long while already, but this is just outrageous.

Plot

Ravi Teja's the hero, Brahmanandam is a comedian, two girls from up north are the female leads, we have songs from abroad, fights from film cities, screenplay filled with betrayals, flash backs and all else. Crudely speaking that is the plot or the plan with which a film like this is carried out.

If I were a producer to whom the writer/director had narrated the plot to, it would seem somewhat like this:

"Sir, there's Ravi Teja who is his usual fun self, cracking jokes, slapping Brahmanandam and all. He goes to a police officer's house as a protector who had been hired by the department itself. Why? Because the character played by Shyam (the police fellow) has some issue with the one played by Rahul Dev and Rahul Dev kills his son or something. The character names and why they kill each other's kids we'll decide upon later. We can get through the first half with Brahmanandam and Ravi Teja's liquor episodes, Venu Madhav now and then and we'll have someone like Taapsee who can be the hero's love interest in the first half, just for the songs, she has nothing to do with the film".

"Then at the end of the first half we'll reveal the link between Shyam's wife (Sri Devi) and Ravi Teja and we begin the second half with Ravi Teja's powerful flashback. His father is the head of a small town, big family, they are very good people who give out free clothes and all, we can kill the father when Ravi is, forgot to tell you, his name is VEERA. So coming back, we can kill Veera's father for some reason, we'll come up with it and Veera has a big story protecting the village and all. One other thing I forgot, the love interest of the flashback is Kajal. And some things happen and we have an end".

What's good?

The making of this film is a tale of hope. If somebody who lives on this very planet we live on and actually wrote, convinced people and made a film such as this, that's a tale of human hope. It is this blind hope in our primitive taste as an audience. Only primitive conviction or unadulterated stupidity can cause a film like this to happen.

Why the passage about hope?

The hero's entrance (as we call it) had these frames where Ravi Teja had to talk to somebody he had just shot and he's looking down. He had sun glasses on him and his lines were shot from two angles. And what can be seen in the hero's eye wear :

Angle 1: The reflectors 

Angle 2: The whole damn crew. 

And the budget of this film is in crores to say the least.

Actors 

For all of you who usually regard Ravi Teja's films as a minimum guarantee, this is most definetly not one of them. Imagine a huge earth quake and you wouldn't worry in particular about some fancy star hotel that had come down, so is the case with Ravi's performance in this. He just couldn't stop the quake.

And as for the female leads, they continue to be the highest paid porn stars I know of.

Verdict

Say some guy sold you some fake tickets for a movie, how would you feel? Watching this film is no different.

Ragini MMS Telugu Movie Review

When Dibakar Banerjee took a previously done concept to make Love Sex Aur Dhokha (LSD), he not only created cinematic poetry but its commercial success made its studio greedy enough to replicate the formula.

Sadly, what the studio did not realise is that unlike science, in cinema, formulas can not always be replicated. Proof - Ragini MMS, a clone between LSD, Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity.

Uday (Raj Kumar) takes Ragini (Kainaz Motivala) to a secluded house rigged with cameras. He intends to shoot a sex video. What he does not know is that the house is haunted. The sexy twosome, soon turn into a murderous threesome.

There are too many things wrong with the film - the jump-cuts are often jarring, there are no subplots, it abounds in all cliches of the horror genre, though the performance of the lead pair is convincing, the others are bad, the ghost may not be wearing a white bed sheet and a candle, but her hazy, ugly witch avatar has been done to death before, the ghost is seen so much that she stops being frightening and the audio during the horror scenes is so loud that instead of the scene, it's the sound that scares etc.

Ragini MMS does not seem to be the work of one or a few creative soul, rather it looks like the handiwork of many heads trying to break creativity together that end up breaking apart the film instead.

One of the most key elements of a horror film is silence. The simplest trick in the horror filmmakers manual is to punctuate the film with lots of silent moments raising a false alarm in the minds of the viewer and striking horror when least expected. There is so much loud background noise put into the film that any sense of nuances is completely lost.

The lack of a credible back story or subplots ensures that you don't empathize with your butchered couple. Raj Kumar who almost essays the same videotaping voyeur's role he played in LSD, is underutilized and though a feeble attempt is made at the end to make you empathize with him, it's too late.

Also the concept of horror in the film is of western origin - that of pure evil. The Japanese version of horror, which is gaining currency in Hollywood after dozens of their horror films have been remade, is that of empathy for the ghost as well where the film also become a mystery, besides being a dumb slasher movie.

Also for horror films, besides a notable exception in Paranormal Activity, linear plots don't work. The unexpected twists in the story do.

Ekta Kapoor, who after landmark films like LSD and Shor In The City, has the chance to become the patron saint of creative directors, needs to remember that a director and his team is hired for their creative vision. She needs to learn to trust them for that.

Also, she needs to remember that you can copy a format and a formula, but not style and panache.(IANS)

100 % Love Movie Story:

Balu (Naga Chaithanya) is an intelligent Engineering student and always aims to be the college topper. Maha Lakshmi (Tamanna) is Balu’s sister-in-law joins in the same college to pursue her studies well. Maha Lakshmi astonishes everyone in the college by getting top rank in the college and from than Balu and Maha Lakshmi become good competitors in studies. Here comes a character Ajith who also gives both of them a tuff competition in studies.

In order to divert Ajith from getting college 1st, Maha Lakshmi proposes him and diverts him from studies. In this turn Balu gets top rank in the college. As both of them are closely related, Balu and Maha lakshmi's elders decide to do their marriage. But in one situation Maha Lakshmi praises Ajith and this irks Balu and asks her and her father to get out from his house. Will Balu change his mind and asks them to come back? Are Balu and Maha Lakshmi really in love? Is Maha Lakshmi initially in love with Ajith? Will they get married separately? How Balu gets close with Maha Lakshmi later forms the crux of 100% love.
Performances:

Naga Chaithanya as Balu showed gigantic improvement in his acting skills. He expressed right expressions in each and every frame. Chaithanya’s body language and expressions elevated the character. With this film he is going to get his father’s name romantic hero but still needs some polish on dancing skills.Tamanna is undoubtedly the life of the project, she looked simply elegant and beautiful. She in-fact went into the skin of the character Maha Lakshmi and her performance in the film is admiring to a large extent. Tamanna is the show stellar in the film and she has lot of scope for performance, she did more than justice to her character.

Naresh gave an acceptable performance. Dhamavarapu Subramanyam keeps engaged all through the film. The rest of the cast suited their designed characters well enough.

Especially, the kids in the film gave an impact full and outstanding performance in the film.
Technical Analysis:

Music by Devi Sri Prasad is very good and it is the only asset that can be discussed about the film. All the songs are well picturised and they will hang on in your memory even after to come out from the screens. Cinematography by Prasad is okay as they are not great locales to be praised. Art direction is very good. Dialogues are first rated and they sound fresh to the ears. There are a few entertaining dialogues which will impress you a lot. Editing is okay. Production values by Bunny Vasu are of top class standard as each and every frame of the film looks rich. 100% love carries a routine story with only few different rudiments and the execution is little unique.  The missing factors in the film will reduce the impact completely.

The positive signs of the film are Tamanna, direction, Kid’s comedy sequence, Music, First rated dialogues, back ground score, production values and cinematography. On the flip side, the film is dragged in the second half, the graph of the film is fluctuating and slides down with the proceedings and the negative shades of Naga Chaithanya in the second half.
Analysis:

The first half of the film is entertaining, enjoyable and surprising and keeps you glued to your seats with hilarious comedy sequences and fresh dialogues but the narration in the second half is slow paced, slacked and is some what predictable with a sentimental climax. Director Sukumar undoubtedly done a great job but if he would have worked much better in the second half, 100% love would have appealed in a bigger way.  The film is not that good or that bad but will face a bit difficulty to satisfy all sections of audiences. You can watch the film for the Tamannah’s performance, dialogues, music and comedy scenes. 100% Love will appeal more of youth audiences while the family audiences will have mixed reactions. Overall, the film could be an above average grosser.

Nenu Naa Rakshasi Review

A film that keeps the Puri graph in pattern. This is his downward slope after the success of Golimaar.

Plot
Abhi (Rana) is a professional killer (never ceases to seem funny, the thought of professional killers in Telugu films). In comparison though, the professional in this film isn’t the usual comic amateur we get to see, at least his gun was cool. Meenakshi (Ileana) is your ‘everyday stunningly beautiful’ girl who works in a coffee shop.
The film’s central issue is suicides and the reasons for it. A YouTube account by the name of ‘Itsmylifeboss’ is set up for filming suicides as requested by the one committing it.
Who and why is filming these suicides? Why is Abhi in his chosen profession? How do the lives of Abhi and Meenakshi come together?
What’s good?
By far the best part of the film is Amol Rathod’s visuals. That was in fact what I’ve been looking forward to. The touch of an ace cinematographer to Puri’s machismo screenplay.
Puri trying to move away from his usual writing technique, in a way.
What loses the grasp?The film held its pace in parts, but, failed on the whole. The narrative lost its way somewhere in between and couldn’t bounce back in spite of a few Puri strokes.
The inevitable Ali was there, but, hadn’t got the usual humor that flows. Sort of reminds you of his episode from ‘Ek Niranjan’, vulgar.
Except for Michael Jackson’s Padithinammo, none of the songs contributed to the pace or the quality.
ActorsIleana can be tagged as the one who can act if asked. Nothing radical but nothing much to complain about.
Rana’s got the voice, the look and the beard, but, he will be standing in line with the rest of the star kids if he tries to accomplish the matinee idol feat in the established path. This road is not for him.
The brilliant Abhimanyu Singh (Bukka from Raktha Charitra) proves that even the best of actors need good enough words on paper to make an impression.
Verdict
Yet to watch: “Ela vundi ra cinema?”
Already seen the film: “Average mama”.

Pawan Kalyan's Teen Maar(2011) Movie Review

A worthy remake that pays its respects to the original.

Plot

The screenplay moves parallelly in two generations. One is that of Michael Velayudham in Cape Town and the other is of Arjun Palwan in Varanasi. Both of which are played by Pawan Kalyan.

The conflicting ideas of these two characters from different generations become the central point of conflict in the film. Michael is a chef who woos women with his Italian and is hardly a believer in the institution of marriage. Arjun is a college rebel from the 80s who would put everything on the line for his lady.

The screenplay parallelly intersects whenever an issue’s at conflict. When does Michael realize his love for Meera (Trisha) and does Arjun succeed in winning the hand of his lady?

What’s good?

This is one remake which has its brain intact and doesn’t over do the original writing in the name of Telugising it.

The cinematography (Jayanan Vincent) was neat and the money spent on the sets seemed worthy. Art direction to look forward to and the music with smart choreography supporting it was catchy on almost all occasions.

The best part of the process was the inclusion of Trivikram to make those minor changes to the screenplay and add his signature wit to the film. A screenplay as intelligent as ‘Love AajKal’ needs a writer who can understand the dynamics of writing to retain the soul of it.

Why might this fail at the box office?

This is a sort of screenplay which is now working at the Hindi cinemas. The basic ingredients such as the sexual attitudes are now okay with the crowd up north, but, cannot guarantee a box office hit down here (mainly owing to the difference in the number of multiplex movie goers).

It might just work out, it might just not.

Actors

Even though many of Pawan Kalyan’s recent films hadn’t worked wonders with the returns, his screen presence and the grace with which he rises to situations, be it simple or intense had never been questioned. A few greatly over done action sequenceswere questioned and he takes care of that pretty well in this one. He’s the rare ‘actor/mass entertainer’ combo.

Trisha was looking at her best in a lot of years and she can act if asked. Kriti Kharbanda is the female lead of the 80s episode and she did have a presence that counts though she hadn’t got much to do, but, be happy or shocked by the situation.

Verdict

This is a film that had involved all the actors, writers and technicians in a good

way. Giving it a try wouldn’t hurt.

Sakthi movie review

It is:A shame and brain less, crude, loud and over done compilation of all the major box office hits from the past few years.

Plot

Indians dressed as Egyptians in cheap clichés want to destroy India for strange untold reasons in this latest Meher fantasy. For which they need a magic stone and a magic sword. Battles were fought in the past over these badly designed objects (the sword in particular bears a great resemblance to one of those things a 5 year old would crave for in the local fair, IT WAS PLAIN AND CLEAR PLASTIC).

Rudra (the NTR with the desperate wig) had fought the actual battle 27 years ago and his son who was born on the field of battle (brilliant writing, totally original and brilliant) avenges his father’s death after he realizes that his current parents found him on a plank of wood in the river (listen carefully, not even one of those basket boats, a plain plank of wood and the just born should have had great balance to survive the length of the river).

And the son and the father put together have killed about two three hundred people may be, in their respective decades, what’s the whole point of being a hero if you hadn’t killed at least a hundred right.

What created the buzz?

As evidently brainless as the first half might seem, it did have an endurable tempo. And the little Pokiri twist at the end of the first half and the way it was presented did have a hysterical impact on the crowds. The theater full of people was on its feet, every single one of them.

What sinks you into the chair?

You get bored in a film and one thing I’ve always done and seen is sinking into the chair. This sort of blocks your view of the screen and you do it just for that. This is when the things on screen go from boring to repelling.

Fights were innumerable and they tend to go on forever. We’ve now passed the age of dodging bullets; we’ve entered the ‘dodge the rocket launcher’ era.

Actors

NTR is someone who never seems out of place on a silver screen but he needs to work with far better scripts to have the complete impact of his raw talent. In this film, he has nothing new to offer.

It was a high budget, grand, that, this Telugu film and hence there were plenty of other actors who were given their usual desk jobs and they are so very good at it.

Nassar is one who’s away from his desk this time, and he does well.

Verdict

Ever bought one of those re-mix discs which ruin the good songs with terrible club mixes and presented as Hot Remixes, Most Wanted Remixes etc with a picture of an upcoming item girl for the cover.

This film is precisely THAT disc.

Leaked Story:

The name of NTR in this movie is Shakti. He works as security officer in National Security Force. He will be appointed as Security Guard to Ileyana. Tamil actor Prabhu is head of this National Security Force. Ileyana is his daughter. Ileyana is good devotee and she likes to visit all temples in India. Due to security problem her father Prabhu will not give her permission to visit temples. But Ileyana wont agrees with her father’s word and finally decides to visit temples across India. Finally, Prabhu agrees with Ileyana and asks Jr NTR to go with her as security.

NTR and Ileyana faces lot of problems in their journey. Unknown people attacks on them and tries to kill them. Jr NTR fights with them and saves Ileyana. But again some unknown people attacks on them. But now NTR understands that they are not attacking Ileyana, but they are targeting him. Then comes to interval.

Flash back comes after Interval. Jr NTR will be seen as Rudra in flash back. Rudra was king of a kingdom where lies some powerful Shakthi Peetam. Rudra protects these Shakthi Peetam from villians. But, gangsters tries to steal them and wants to become powerful persons in the world. Finally, Rudra dies in this war.

Later, Shakthi who belongs to same family decides to save Shakthi Peetam from Villians. How he fights and save it from Villains is rest of the story.

Jr NTR is supposed to appear in 4 different getup’s in this movie. He will be seen as Security officer, Shakthi get up, Rudra Get up and as a King.

Chattam Movie Review

A mix and match of routine entertainer and crime story.

Plot

Jagapathi babu once again dons the role of inspector now belonging to Punjagutta Police premises, who along with his constable Jeeva does all sorts of illegal activities like money collections and matter settlements. The only aim of Jagapathi babu is that he tries to gather as much money as possible from criminals and law offenders to fulfill his needs at the end of the day.

Jagapathi babu only registers cases against people who are committing crimes like throwing acid on fellow girl students who have refused to love them and even there is another incident where a small baby girl is thrown into furnance.

However these offenders have finally been mercilessly killed by some unidentified person who on investigation by Mukul Sharma will be revealed as none other than the inspector jagapathi babu who on identification escapes to Mumbai. The rest of the story is all about the reason why the inspector has made an escape to mumbai and how will he accomplish his mission in mumbai?

What’s slightly entertaining?

The first half of the film looks slightly entertaining with light hearted scenes and no heavy actions are involved in this part whereas the second half of the movie is jam packed with action sequences and also the flash back love story of jagapathi babu is included in it.

What bores you?

Jagpathi babu tries to evoke laughter at some places but utterly fails in doing so also jagapathi babu’s previous love story seems to be routine with nothing new in it.

Actors

Jagapathi babu has perfectly fit into the role of cop which he has done several times earlier, and continues with the same performance throughout providing nothing new or challenging for the actor to do.

Vimala raman basically was included into the movie only for some song sequences where she has played her part by giving skin show other than which she has nothing to do in the movie. All other actors seem to have played their characters precisely without anything different from what script they have been provided with.

Verdict

It is neither a family entertainer nor an action movie, the director has mixed up everything and has failed in providing a proper film.
